Office Hysteroscopy

An office hysteroscopy is a procedure which is performed to examine the inside of the uterine cavity. This can provide information about your infertility, recurrent miscarriages, or abnormal uterine bleeding. Hysteroscopy allows the physician to diagnosis abnormalities inside the uterine cavity such as fibroids, scarring, infection, polyps, and congenital malformations.
This procedure is performed in the office. The cervix is cleaned with betadine and a very thin lighted hysteroscope is passed through the cervix into the uterus. A clear solution is injected through the scope to expand the uterine cavity which enables the physician to view the uterine cavity and take pictures for documentation. Following a hysteroscopy you may experience some vaginal discharge, spotting, or mild cramping. You will be able to return to work following the procedure.
This procedure needs to be scheduled after you are done bleeding, but prior to ovulation (between cycle days 5-12, cycle day 1 is the first day of a full flow). You may take Tylenol, Advil, or Motrin one hour prior to the procedure to decrease any cramping or minimal discomfort which may occur. Please call the office 302-738-4600 on cycle day 1 to schedule this procedure.
