Diagnosis of Infertility

A thorough work-up of both partners will be done to determine each couple's individual needs. The diagnostic work-up should take only one monthly menstrual cycle.
Testing will include:
  • Cycle Day 2 or 3 blood testing for hormone levels to check egg quality
  • SonoHysterosalpingogram (HSG): A test to determine the contour of the uterine cavity and the patency of the fallopian tubes. Learn more...
  • Office Hysteroscopy: A test to visually look at the uterine cavity to detect any infection, polyps or scarring in the uterus that may cause infertility. Learn more...
  • Post Coital Test (PCT): A simple test performed to determine the interaction between the sperm and the cervical mucus. Perform prior to ovulation. Learn more...
  • Endometrial Biopsy: A sampling of the lining of the uterus to evaluate the effect of progesterone (hormone of pregnancy) on the endometrium as it prepares for implantation. This test is usually performed 10 days after ovulation. Learn more...
  • Laparoscopy: This is a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Russell to evaluate your uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. If any problems are diagnosed, they can often be corrected at the same time. Learn more...
  • Semen Analysis: A sperm sample is collected at home and brought to the office or collected in the office and analyzed for volume, count, motility, forward progression, and appearance( morphology).
